Alex Puckett is a second year SPSCC English student with high aspirations. In his four years of writing poetry he has read at numerous open microphone events, performed for famous poet Nikki Giovanni, and now has published a book of his poems.
Alex is passionate about poetry. “My goal is to Inspire the world with my poetry, and change the world through it,” said Puckett.
“My little brother started writing before me, so he inspired me to write,” Puckett explained, after a brief pause, “After I had written my first poem, and everyone enjoyed it, I started writing to express myself through lyrics.”
Puckett tries to perform as often as possible, reading his poetry at open mics to fellow students and the community at large. Last year he performed for poet Nikki Giovanni at a reception before her lecture in The Artist and Lecture Series. This year, Puckett has performed at the Olympia Arts Walk and at the campus bookstore during his signing event.
“When you write it gives you a sense of who you are,” said Puckett, “It gives me hope when I write and see my words inspire others, that inspires me to write more.”
Alex Puckett’s book of poetry, “A Thousand Words,” is available for purchase in the school bookstore.
“My poetry has given me hope and for those of you who want to pursue the path of poetry, anything can happen as long as you want your goal more than you want to breathe.” said Puckett.
