This year the SPSCC Athletic Department hopes to add an intramural wrestling team to compete in the National College Wrestling Association (NCWA). The team is in the process of getting funding from the Associated Student Body Senate.
“They will compete against fouryear schools and club teams,” said Pam Charpentier, SPSCC Athletic Director. To participate in NCWA, you must be taking a minimum of six credits and have a 2.0 grade point average. Both males and females can join.
Phil Pine, who has committed his time and energy to bring more wrestling opportunities to the Olympia area, will volunteer as the SPSCC wrestling coach. Pine also volunteers for The Evergreen State College and Saint Martin’s University wrestling teams: “the teams will train and travel together,” said Pine.
“The only thing that will limit people will be the funding,” said Charpentier, “if the team needs more money they will fundraise as needed.”
