Having fun around the Sound

Summer quarter has already started, but there is still summertime fun to be had for students. Here is a list of activities coming up in the area to be enjoyed by students taking the quarter off or between studies.

The Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival

In Seattle, Sept. 1 to Sept. 3. The Bumbershoot Festival features musical performances, comedians, films, and much more. This year’s performers include Tony Bennett, Jane’s Addiction, M. Ward, Best Coast, City and Colour, Mudhoney, and Sera Cahoone. Comedian Fred Armisen (of SNL and Portlandia) will be performing, as well as Janeane Garofalo, and Brian Posehn. Music In The Park

Music in the Part will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. throughout July and August at Sylvester Park in downtown Olympia. People are encouraged to come watch, picnic, dance, and sing along. Find exact dates and a list of performers at www.musicintheparkolympia.com.

Sand in the City

Aug. 24 to Aug. 26 in downtown Olympia. This year’s Sand in the City event will include activities such as a team sand-sculpting competition, face painting, arts and crafts booths, live music, and two beach parties. Visit www.hocm.org for more information.

The Puyallup Fair

From Sept. 7 to Sept. 23. Puyallup will host rides, food, animals, and art! There will be live performances by musical acts Willie Nelson, Heart, Martina McBride, Enrique Iglesias, and more! Find exact dates and a list of performers at www.thefair.com.
